What studies found
B12's roles in red blood cells and nerves are well established. Adults over 50, plant-based eaters, and people on metformin or long-term acid reducers are more likely to run low. Your body absorbs about half of a 1–2 mcg dose, but only about 2% of a 500 mcg dose. Research hasn't shown that any form, including methylcobalamin, is absorbed better.
How much is in our products
| Product | Amount |
|---|---|
| 5-MTHF Methylfolate | 3 mg (3,000 mcg) methylcobalamin per 3-capsule serving |
| Gut Health | 100 mcg per 2-capsule serving |
| Advanced Alpha Focus | 10 mcg per 2-capsule serving |
In studies: Adults need 2.4 mcg a day. Absorption studies looked at doses from 1–2 mcg up to 1,000 mcg.
All of our amounts are well above the 2.4 mcg adults need each day; no upper limit has been set.
Who should take care
B12 is generally considered safe, even at high doses. Metformin, PPIs and H2 blockers can lower how much you absorb. High folate intake can hide low B12 in blood tests, so ask your doctor to check your B12 if you take folate. Numbness or tingling in your hands or feet is a reason to see your doctor.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting a supplement if you take any medicine, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a health condition.
