What studies found
In small human studies, DIM changed which estrogen breakdown products (metabolites) the body makes. Whether that leads to fewer symptoms or better well-being hasn't been well shown. Menopause experts don't recommend supplements for hot flashes.

Who should take care
Don't take DIM if you're pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding. Ask first if you take birth control, hormone therapy, tamoxifen or other prescription medicines; DIM lowered the active form of tamoxifen in one study. Rare case reports have linked DIM to clotting events, and it can change urine estrogen test results. Possible side effects include headache, upset stomach or changes in urine color.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting a supplement if you take any medicine, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a health condition.
